Margaretta Days Machias

Margaretta Days Festival – Machias

June 14, 2019

Celebrating the American Revolution Downeast, specifically the Battle of the Margaretta – First Naval Battle of the Am Revolution and beginning of the US Merchant Marines – and the Battle of the Rim, when the British returned for revenge and were repulsed by the cooperation of the Patriots and their allies: the Passamaquoddy, Maliseets, and Penobscots.

Basically we take you back in time, to life in 1770’s. It’s free, fun, handicapped-accessible and educational for all ages. Held at the University of Maine at Machias, history comes alive with an encampment of reenactors, Native Americans, musicians, trappers, timber framers, blacksmiths, weavers etc.

Taste the food, enjoy the music and dance. Meet some of the leaders in the Am Rev Downeast and hear their stories. There are games for children and adults. Area historical societies are on hand to assist with family genealogy. Last, but not least, you can shop our contemporary artists and crafters.

In 2010 the festival was named one of the top 20 festivals in Maine. In 2015 the US Navy Band Northeast Pops Ensemble of Rhode Island gave a concert. In 2016 the National Sons of the American Revolution declared the festival as an event for which their members could earn points for their silver medal by attending. In 2017 descendants of key figures in the Battle of the Rim 240 years earlier attended and were honored. The Passamaquoddy Huntley Brook Singers and Drummers performed that year.
