Narrows Watch is a spectacularly simple cottage — straight out of an Andrew Wyeth painting. The views and decor capture the very essence of a Maine summer house by the shore.
The cottage has been featured in several national magazines, as well as a book titled simply “Summer House”. What could be more perfect than that?
It is nestled on a hillside in the tiny village of Machiasport, just a hop, skip and a jump from historic Liberty Hall and the historical society. It overlooks the estuary where the Machias River meets the Atlantic Ocean and is just a short drive to Jasper Beach, Grey’s Beach or the town of Machias.
Because you should know before you go…
***The home itself is a true retreat. The small gourmet kitchen features a commercial Viking stove, a double fridge and an amazing soapstone sink (but no dishwasher).
***There are three bedrooms upstairs — a queen, double and twin – sleeping 5 people comfortable.
***The three bedrooms are upstairs and the one bathroom is downstairs
***There is currently no internet at the cottage — the owners have been using their cell phones as mobile hot-spots and enjoy having the home unplugged.
***There is one small television in one bedroom that plays dvd’s only.
***There is no washer or dryer at the house — there is a laundromat about 4 miles away.
***The staircase to the bedrooms is fairly steep and narrow — as staircases often are in beautiful old homes.
***The bathroom has a wonderful clawfoot tub with a shower.
***The cottage is water view with access to launch your kayak just down the road at the public boat landing.
There is no need to fight the summer crowds in Bar Harbor!
